Premal Badiani’s Dream of Fashion
Premal Badiani is an Indian-American fashion designer, who creates magnificent pieces, that are not only beautiful, but also environment-friendly. She joined FTL Moda for the The Future of Fashion event on February 14. We wanted to know more about her inspirations and interviewed her at the event.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?
My flair for designing started in childhood. It was more of a gradual progression for me. I used to spend my spare time researching and playing around with fabrics, inspiring color hues and dreaming fashion. It just crept into my blood, and here I am.
What is your favorite part about being a designer?
I am constantly reworking and reinventing myself with trends and aesthetic movements. The favorite part is staying in the constant bliss of creativity. I find it very stimulating and soothing which provides me a sense of accomplishment.
What were your inspirations for the designs you created for this season?
The inspiration behind this collection is to bring awareness of the human impact on the environment and to promote social responsibility by adopting sustainable fashion as a lifestyle choice. This highlights the brand’s philosophy of environmental awareness that believes caring about the planet is not a seasonal choice but needs to be done all year round. Through this collection, Premal Badiani wants to promote sustainable fashion in the luxury market.
How do you feel about seeing your collection through VR glasses?
It was the most thrilling and one of a kind experience. To be honest I was nervous at first, but when I wore those glasses, I knew something phenomenon was about to happen. The runway looked miraculous and it was like seeing the outfits come alive. I think it was creativity at its best. We may have changed the future of fashion and for the good. Thank you Samsung and FTL for making us part of this, we are honored.
What plans do you have for the future?
We continuously want to keep on learning and growing, along with penetrating further into the US market we want to grow the brand globally. We plan to launch the brand in India in March, taking the brand Premal Badiani back to its roots. I want to be able to showcase that though being born in the western world, the brand has successfully maintained its heritage giving it a global identity. Also in the plans is UK and Dubai.
